OBITUARY: Clarence Rice

Clarence Rice, 79 of Harrisburg, passed away 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at St. Mary's hospital in Evansville, Ind.

Clarence was born Jan. 15, 1935, to Murrell and Alice Stearnes Rice. He was married to the former Joanne Thomason on June 11, 1955. He was a U.S. Army paratrooper, owned Juanita's Cleaners in Harrisburg for 38 years, was a volunteer fireman for several years, was a charter member of the Harrisburg Town & Country Lions Club, was a former road commissioner for 20 years, was a former member of the Harrisburg City Council and was an avid Cardinals fan.

Clarence is survived by his wife, Joanne; daughter-in-law, Beth Rice of Harrisburg; two sisters, Mary Jean and Jim Woolard of Harrisburg and Rita and Don Bradshaw of Vienna; one brother-in-law, Richard Harper of Harrisburg; and three sisters-in-law, Betty and Bill Smith of Eldorado, Judy and Ed Hayes of Marion and Cathy Haney of Harrisburg; three grandchildren, Christan and Tony Fry, Corie Rice and Evan Denbow and Carter Rice; three great-grandchildren, Sadie Schwartz, Quinten Denbow and Emerson Fry.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Billy Wayne Rice; three brothers, James A. "Buck" Rice, Garrett Rice and Harry Dean Rice; along with three sisters, Nellie and Wayne Cantrell, Murlene Rice and Minnie Rice; two brothers-in-law, Bob Haney and Everet Maddux.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014, at the J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. Steve Shea officiating and burial to follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014, at the J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg.
