Midwest Getaway: Ride back in time in Sedalia

Once upon a time, in a place not far away, the great railroad expansion was creating a new way of life. In 1894, the news that the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad planned to build a new depot spread across the west-central portion of the state. It was an event of historic proportions for the community of Sedalia.

Owing to the foresight of Gen. George R. Smith and a partner, D.W. Bouldin, the plat for the town of Sedalia was filed in 1860. Although it took a number of years and hard work, the town grew as the railroads played a major role in shaping the destiny of the small community.
