Police arrested Norwood man for homicide of Elmwood Road resident

State police arrested contractor William Dunn, 41, for the alleged murder of an elderly Elmwood Road resident earlier Friday.

Robert Moore, 78, was found murdered and his daughter-in-law badly beaten in basement of 243 Elmwood Road.

Robert Moore's grandson, Jamie Moore, who had been painting the exterior of the house, came upon the incident. He told police at approximately 12:49 p.m. that a contractor had beaten Robert Moore and his daughter-in-law, Nancy Moore.

Police have not determined the weapon used, but said the cause of Robert Moore's death was blunt force trauma.

The district attorney said the Nancy Moore is recovering in the hospital.

Dunn was found in Norwood on the westbound side of Route 128, in a reeded area. According to the district attorney, he was found based on a description from Jamie Moore of his "reddish" shirt, with the help of helicopters, police dogs, and a cell phone.

In a separate incident, Needham police received information that there was a man with a gun in downtown Needham this afternoon. Police placed all schools in Needham, as well as the public library, under lockdown.

Police approached Stone Hearth Pizza on Great Plain and Dedham avenues, with guns drawn.

Chris Robbins, co-owner of Stone Hearth Pizza, said the manager told him a man came into the restaurant, "very agitated."

"He used the bathroom and actually came out dressed in something different," Robbins said.

The manager called the police and told employees and three or four customers in the pizzeria to leave, according to Robbins. The man was detained, and police said the incident was unrelated to the murder.
