Randle OK for basketball scrimmages after bruising knee

Illinois senior forward Brian Randle was limited in basketball practice Thursday after suffering a bruised knee during the 82-61 win over Division II Quincy Wednesday night.

There was no reinjury to his surgically repaired groin.

Randle will play when the Illini hold scrimmages at 11 a.m. Saturday at Glenbrook North High School in the Chicago suburb of Northbrook and again during a scrimmage at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Chicago Whitney Young High School.

He also will be available when the Illini play their final exhibition game against Kentucky Wesleyan on Tuesday (8 p.m., Big Ten Network).

Randle banged his knee on the floor late in the first half against Quincy. With the Illini leading by 32 points at halftime, coach Bruce Weber made a conservative decision and let Randle rest.

Randle's time could be limited Tuesday because Weber could go almost exclusively with his younger players while he attempts to make decisions concerning redshirts.

The scrimmages at Glenbrook North and Whitney Young are free and open to the public. After each scrimmage, autograph sessions will be held.
