Doctor dies after being hit by car that crashed into Brockton Hospital

The chief of radiation oncology at Brockton Hospital died after being struck by a car that crashed through the front door of the radiation department this afternoon.

Dr. Mark Vasa, 58, of Norwell, died at the hospital following the 2 p.m. accident, according to hospital spokesman Rob Brogna.

Five other people were injured, including the 76-year-old woman who lost control of her car and drove through the front door of the radiation therapy department. The car reportedly pinned Vasa by the front desk.

The names of the driver and the other employees injured in the accident were not released. Their conditions were not immediately known. One of the injured was taken by a MedFlight helicopter to a Boston hospital.

Only the radiation therapy wing was affected by the accident. All other hospital services, including the emergency department, were still operating, Brogna said.
