White Sox notebook: Thome closes in on HR No. 500

Jim Thome has tried hard not to dwell on his would-be membership in the 500 Home Run Club, but the White Sox designated hitter has no choice now.

Thome moved closer to the magic number Saturday afternoon, when he went deep against Minnesota Twins starter Matt Garza for his 497th career homer in an otherwise-uneventful 8-7 victory.
