REAGAN TIMELINE:
Time line for the Ronald W. Reagan Leadership program at Eureka College
June 7, 1932: Future President Ronald Reagan graduates from Eureka
College.
Summer 1981: Eureka College President Daniel Gilbert visits President
Ronald Reagan at the White House and proposes the establishment of a
scholarship program in Reagan's honor.
Spring 1982: Eureka College announces the establishment of the Ronald W.
Reagan Scholarship program.
Fall 1983: The first class of Reagan Scholars, known as Reagan Fellows,
enters Eureka College. There were 20 students in the initial class.
Today, the college offers five Reagan Fellowships each year.
Spring 1987: The first class of Reagan Fellows graduates Eureka College.
President Reagan and Nancy Reagan host a White House reception for the
scholars and supporters of Eureka College.
Spring 1992: President Ronald Reagan makes his last of a dozen visits to
campus, speaking at commencement and visiting with Reagan Fellows.

REAGAN QUIZ:
The decade of the '80s and the presidency of Ronald Reagan fit
together like Cagney and Lacey.
But it's also a decade that seems to be accessible to today's youth on
VH1's "I Love the '80s" show and Wikipedia online.
Let's face it, who has time for Iran-Contra memories when today's
political scandals involve Idaho politicians in men's rest rooms?
We're also sure many central Illinoisans take one of the area's all-time
most famous residents, Ronald "Dutch" Reagan - a man who graduated from
Eureka College and grew up not far from the Peoria area - for granted.
But that's OK. We have the Reagan Fellows to save us. After all, these
are the prized students whose tuition to Eureka College is paid for
largely thanks to President Reagan's namesake.
"He did theater ... he did film. He was ... or what was he? A
cheerleader? Oh, no, he was in football. Not cheerleading. That was
President Bush," one Reagan Fellow said during a recent interview.
You cannot blame this Reagan Fellow for stumbling a bit when questioned
about the 40th President's past. There is no requirement for Reagan
Fellows to be versed in presidential politics or know anything about the
"trickle-down" effects of Reaganomics. Reagan Fellows are expected to be
leaders in their vocations, not future politicians.
But for fun, we decided to give 11 of the 17 students at Eureka College
who are so-called "Reagans" a five-questions quiz about President
Reagan. Of the 11 students, only one got four of the five questions
correct. No one got all five right. Four got three correct, three got
two right, two got only one question correct, and one student actually
scored a zero.
"I was born in 1987!" one Reagan Fellow quickly pointed out.
See if you can outdo the Reagan Fellows in this little version of "I Love the '80s." Please don't strain too hard over the answers, for as Ronnie himself would say, "They say hard work never hurt anybody, but I figure why take the chance."
