Red Sox 1967: Part 2 of 6 looking back at the year that rekindled the franchise

Vic Davalillo, a 5-foot-7 Venezuelan pinch-hitting for future big-league manager Dick Howser, bounced back to the mound. Red Sox right-hander Dave Morehead snagged the ball, tossed to first, and - there you go -- a no-hitter against Cleveland. The date was Sept. 16, 1965. The losing pitcher was future Sox legend Luis Tiant. The announced crowd was 1,247.

Since the game wrapped up in a tidy two hours flat, Morehead - temporarily detouring from chipping in 18 of the Sox' 100 losses that season - could have personally shaken hands with every paying customer at Fenway Park and still made it home in time for supper.
