OBITUARY: Edward Franklin “Eddie” Burton
Edward Franklin "Eddie" Burton, 73 of Carbondale, passed away at 4:58 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2015, at his son's home in Murphysboro.
Eddie was born on April 29, 1941, in Harrisburg to the late Howard and Golda (Ginger) Burton. On June 10, 1962, he married Barbara Julian and she survives. Eddie was a former welder at Peabody Coal Company in Shawneetown and was the boat pilot for the Cave-In-Rock ferry for several years.
Surviving family members include his wife: Barbara Burton of Carbondale; daughter: Cindy (Eric) Sussman of Mooresville, Ind.; son: Jonathan (Suzanne) Burton of Murphysboro; three grandchildren: Natalie Burton of St. Louis, Mo., Morgan and Madison Sussman of Mooresville, Ind.; brother: Randall (Jeanie) Burton of Eddyville; sister: Phyllis (Steve) Meuller of Marion.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Wendell Burton, Glendell Burton and Rondell Burton; and a sister, Barbara Moore.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2015, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The Rev. Gary Hardesty will officiate. Burial will follow in Cave Hill Cemetery in Cave-In-Rock. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2015, at Reed Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or the Alzheimer's Association. Envelopes will be available at the church.
