Joy Gregory Clevenger

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Joy Gregory Clevenger, 84, longtime resident of Shawneetown, passed away at her home on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008.

Joy, as most knew her, was born in Hardin County near Sparks Hill on Oct. 25, 1923, to the late Cecil and Margaret Collins. She was married to Otto Clevenger who preceded her in death.

Joy was a faithful member of the Ohio Valley General Baptist Church in Shawneetown. She loved to watch the St. Louis Cardinals and playing fetch with her dog, Romie. She was a homemaker and took so much pride in caring for her grandchildren. Joy was a good mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and mother-in-law.

She is survived by five daughters, Joyce Clevenger of Morgans Point, Texas, Annette (Steve) Brugger of Ridgway, Karen (Pat) McLain of Equality, June (Rick) Rushing of Shawneetown and Cindy Dunk of Shawneetown; two sons, Gordon (Carolyn) Clevenger of Ridgway and Bobby (Viva) Clevenger of Sturgis, Ky.; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by, her parents; husband; sons, Pete and Ricky Clevenger; daughters, Patsy Clevenger, Gracie Warden and Connie Smith; one granddaughter, June Rose Clevenger; and one grandson, Jimmy Hubert.

Visitation for Joy will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at the funeral home with her grandson, the Rev. Michael Rushing, officiating. Interment will be in the Westwood Cemetery in Shawneetown.

Joy preferred as a choice of remembrance memorials be made to the Ohio Valley General Baptist Church in her memory.
