Oswald D. Kirkland
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Oswald D. Kirkland, 82, a resident of Carrier Mills Nursing Home, died 11:23 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at the Harrisburg Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 17, 1925, in Buchanan, Tenn., to the late Opal McCuistan Miles. In 1948, he married the former Violet Cohan, who survives of Carrier Mills.
He was a World War II and Korean veteran, longtime member of the Yorkfield Presbyterian Church until moving to Carrier Mills, and then he became a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the Carrier Mills American Legion Post No. 364.
He was a retired sales rep for Blackhawk Manufacturing.
He is survived in addition to his wife Violet by a daughter, Jeri and husband Bob Shaw of Villa Park; daughter, Joanne Kirkland and husband Kevin Clark of Madison, Wis.; and a son, Jim and wife Carla Kirkland of Stonefort; grandchildren, Katie (Scott) Ustas, Rob Shaw, Twyla Clark and friend Omar Quinn Clark, Brenna Clark, Calen Kirkland and Wyatt Kirkland.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Joey Dunning officiating. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery with military honors by the Carrier Mills and Harrisburg American Legions. Visitation will be held noon until the service time at the church.
The preferred choice of remembrance would be memorials in his memory to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 109 E. Washington St., Carrier Mills, Ill. 62917. Envelopes will be available at the church.
