</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Charles A. Smith, 89, of rural Route 1, McLeansboro, died 1:40 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2008, at Heritage Center, Evansville, Ind.

Services were held 11 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2008, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Leland Widick officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery with graveside military rites by American Legion Post No. 106 of McLeansboro. Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2008, at the funeral home.

He was the widower of Georgia Fern Leslie. He is survived by three sons, three daughters-in-law, one daughter, one son-in-law, nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
