Beginner's Box: Baked beans for a crowd

Baked beans are a summer picnic staple. If you love the ultra-Americana dish, chances are you already have a favorite family recipe, perhaps one that calls for special ingredients and hours of simmering.

But if you are looking for a faster version -- one that feeds a crowd -- try this one from Kraft. The dish is started on the stove, then finished in a disposable pan on the grill. It feeds 12 and makes for easy cleanup.

BLOCK PARTY BARBECUED BAKED BEANS

1 pound ground beef

1 medium onion, chopped

1 can (16 ounces) pork and beans

1 can (15 1/2 ounces) mild chili beans

1/2 cup barbecue sauce

1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1 tablespoon yellow mustard

Preheat grill to medium heat. Mean¬while, brown meat in nonstick skillet on medium heat; drain. Add onions; cook until tender, stirring occasionally.

Stir in remaining ingredients.

Spoon all into 13-by-9-inch disposable foil pan; cover tightly with foil. Place pan directly on grill. Grill 10 to 15 min. or until bean mixture is heated through and bubbly.

Prep time, 15 minutes; total time: 30 minutes.
