Pink tulips rise at mini park
Members of Girl Scout Troop 8844 recently visited the gazebo/mini park on Main Street to admire the pink tulips they planted last fall. Members of the Du Quoin Garden Club assisted.
In October, the two groups teamed up to plant the pink tulip bulbs as a part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The junior troop helped plant 80 pink tulip bulbs to help promote awareness and to work toward badges in gardening. At the time, a short informational discussion was held with the girls about breast cancer and why the color pink is used.
The girls also held a question-and-answer session with the garden club members about gardening, difficult plants to grow and why they wanted to be in garden club.
