OBITUARY: Myra Jane Murphy

Myra Jane Murphy, 93 of Mount Vernon, graduated to Heaven 11:55 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014, in Mount Vernon Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon.

Jane was born Aug. 17, 1921, in Harrisburg, to W.E. and Jessie (Brush) Patton. Her mother moved the family to Eldorado where Jane was raised. She graduated from Eldorado High School in 1939. She married Ralph W. Murphy on Oct. 21, 1945, in Eldorado, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 1994. The Murphys moved to Mount Vernon in May 1952. They were active members at Central Christian Church in Mount Vernon since 1952. She was a member of the JOY Class of the church, and was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 233. Jane and Ralph were never blessed with biological children, but they touched many young people's lives through their many years as Youth Sponsors at Central Christian Church. She retired from Illinois Power after 36 years, (four years in Eldorado and 32 years in Mount Vernon).

She is survived by her sister: Virginia Doughty of Chesapeake, Va., and nieces: Emily Doughty, Vickie (Lloyd) Ford in Olive Branch, Miss., Donna (Bob) Oliver of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., Ann Milligan of Ridgway, Myra Laricks of Abilene, Texas, and Valera King; nephews: Jim (Marilyn) Laricks of Dallas, Texas; sister-in-law: Marilouise Murphy of Ridgway; cousins: Earl D. and Katie Patton of Eldorado, Jim and Jean Lowe of Oregon; close friends and extended family: Les "Doc" and Myra Feuquay and family, Gerald and Ruth Denny, Dr. Dale and Sue Alice Erickson, Wanda Browder, Randy and Jayne Sells and family, and Ray and Joan Black and family all of Mount Vernon, and Becky Williams of Huntsville, Ala., and Gale and Janet Mack of Florida; and caregivers: Dorothy Scott and Red and Becky Hughey.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband: Ralph; her parents; sister and brother-in-law: Margaret and James Laricks; mother-in-law: Sophia Murphy; sisters-in-law: Margaret Murphy and Irene Schultz; brothers-in-law: John Murphy, and Herbert (Emma) Murphy.

A special "Thank You" goes out to Mount Vernon Countryside Manor and all who cared for Jane and to her church family.

Visitation was 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.

Funeral Service was held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, with Mr. Randy Sells and Mr. J. Howard Kraps officiating.

Interment and Graveside Service was held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014, at Lindale Cemetery in Eldorado.
