OBITUARY: Nell Evangeline Cox

At 2:40 a.m. Dec. 12, 2014, Nell Evangeline Cox of Harrisburg, departed this life to be in the presence of God.

Nell was born on Dec. 4, 1928, to Joe and Edith Hurford. She was raised in the Sycamore community of Hardin County and attended the one room grade school there, and Rosiclare High School. Nell made a profession of faith at the age of 16 at a revival at the Keeling Hill Baptist Church. At 18, she was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Springfield.

Nell married Bernard G. Cox on March 13, 1953. He preceded her in death in 2002. She and Bernard raised their children in Hardin County.

She is survived by daughters Nancy L. Oshel and husband Michael, and Elaine G. Jerrels and husband Bill. Her grandchildren are Alison Oshel Cook and husband Jason, Travis Jerrels and wife Arielle, Matthew Oshel and wife Bethany, Elizabeth Nell Jerrels Dennison and husband Tyler, and Rebecca Lynn Jerrels. Nell's great grandchildren are Davis Elliot (Eli) Oshel and Hudson Elisabeth Oshel. Nell was preceded in death by her parents and grandson Eric Scott Jerrels.

Nell was a loving mom and grandma. She loved spring, and the hills and hollows, trees and rocks of Hardin County. She was a talented seamstress. All of her loved ones enjoy the quilts she made. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at Empire Cemetery in Elizabethtown. All friends and family are invited to attend. Arrangements are in the charge of Reed Funeral Home in Harrisburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, The American Cancer Society or Dorrisville Baptist Church.
