OBITUARY: Charles W. "Chuck" Hearn

Charles W. "Chuck" Hearn, age 66, resident of rural Carrier Mills, passed away 5:10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, in the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale surrounded by family.

He was born June 13,1948, in Harrisburg, son of the late John C. "Bud" Hearn and Clara Ruth (Davis) Hearn Ammon who survives.

Chuck was married to the former Donna K. Springs on April 14, 1968, and she survives.

He was an educator in the Carrier Mills-Stonefort school district and also at the Southeastern Illinois College. He was a chemist for the Peabody Coal Company and later retired as an insurance agent with Country Companies.

He was a member of the Dorrisville Baptist Church, a board member for over 20 years and past chairman of the Southeastern Illinois College Board, lifetime member and past president of the Muzzle Loading Rifle Association and enjoyed traveling with sporting clays and the traditional black powder snel guns.

He is survived by his wife, Donna K. Hearn of Carrier Mills; daughter, Leslie (Shaun) Galovich of Abilene, Texas; son, J.T. (Emily) Hearn of Murray, Ky.; mother, Clara Ruth Ammon of Carrier Mills;

grandchildren, Adalyn Galovich, Emery Galovich, Braxton Hearn and Grayson Hearn;

sister, Sue Harmon of Carrier Mills.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, at the Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. The service will be conducted by Gene Morgan, Gary Allen, and the Rev. Dewayne Taylor. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014.

The family requests that flowers be omitted. For those who desire, the preferred choice of remembrance would be memorials to the Charles Hearn Scholarship Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
