OBITUARY: Gregory Patrick Sullivan

Gregory Patrick Sullivan of Ft. Myers, Fla., son of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Sullivan of Melbourne, Fla., passed away on Oct. 13, 2014, at the age of 64.

He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Blair Sullivan of Bonita Springs, Fla.; his stepdaughter, Candice Allen Drew of Carterville; his sisters, Francie Prince of Winter Park, Fla., and Kevin Hill of Indian Harbour Beach, Fla; and his brother-in-law Nick Farinella.

He was a graduate of Harrisburg High School and Southeastern Illinois College. After college, Greg attended Holiday Inn University in Olive Branch, Miss., where he was its youngest attendee and the top student in his class.

Greg was managing director and part owner of Holiday Inn Hotels in Mount Vernon, Salem, Marion, Gilbertsville, Ky., Henderson, Ky., and Evansville, Ind., for many years. While he was managing the hotels, he developed his drag racing skills and won the title of National Hot Rod Association Champion in the Super Gas Division in 1987. Greg also was a barge captain and he piloted barges on the Mississippi River. He had a passion for anything with an engine. At the age of four, he used to mow the lawn with the motorized lawn mower and from there it progressed to his love of cars, trucks and boats. He owned and operated a trucking company, Blair Trucking, named after his daughter. After he retired from the trucking business, he moved to Florida in 2003. His love of boats and his affinity for people were the perfect pairing for his last career in yacht sales. He was currently employed as a yacht broker in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

A celebration of Greg's life will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 1, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church of Harrisburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 N. Beauregard St., Alexandria, Va. 22311 or Pet Rescue by Judy at 401 S. Laurel Ave., Sanford, Fla. 32771.
