Prep Football: Going Out In Style?
With not a lot left to play for Friday night, Harrisburg head coach Jason Roper is quick to remind his team there is still something left to prove.
Aside from winning one last regular season game, the Bulldogs' head coach wants to send his seniors out in style.
Harrisburg will honor its 10 seniors, including Michael Victoria, Austin Lowry, Sean Crisenbery, Kyle Heavener, Carter Rice, Tyler Salus, Jaxon Karnoski, Logan Boon, Cody Stoffel and Aaron Johsnon.
"It's senior night and I think that's always been something big for our kids," Roper said. "Our seniors were able to win their homecoming game, so it would be nice to send them out with a senior night win. If we can finish strong, that would be important for them."
Harrisburg is in the midst of a three-game skid where they have been outscored 118-37.
The Bulldogs (2-6, 2-3 SIRR) are allowing 29.8 points per game, while giving up 13.1
They'll take on a Carbondale Terrier ballcub at Taylor Field, who for the most part, hasn't enjoyed anymore success than Harrisburg this year.
After qualifying for the playoffs under then head coach Nick Hill a year ago, Carbondale is 0-8 overall and winless in the South Seven Conference.
The Terriers have allowed 312 points this season, while scoring a total of 138.
It's a schedule that Roper says Carbondale has been competitive in, but just haven't been able to come up with any wins.
"They've been close in some games with (Belleville) Althoff and Marion, who they led early in the first half against, and it's going to be a tough matchup for us just based on their athleticism and speed."
In last week's loss to Class 4A state ranked Herrin, not much went right for Harrisburg, despite putting up 327 yards of total offense.
Noah Vallette rushed for 155 yards on eight carries including a score, but after multiple weeks with the Bulldogs giving teams looks in the Wildcat formation, it would appear Harrisburg is going back to basics.
"I think Noah has worked in at quarterback and we're still in that mode of monitoring his arm and his ankle. We may find ourselves where we are in a situation where we put Corbin back in at wideout, I think that is where is a little more comfortable. Even though, Crim has done a nice job for us at quarterback, I think you can expect to see Noah back in that spot Friday night."
