GOLF: Ferguson finishes season strong with 27th place at State

Du Quoin High School senior Marisa Ferguson shot an 85 on Friday and an 83 on Saturday at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur, Ill. to wrap up her season with a 27th place showing at the IHSA Class A Girls Golf State Final Tournament in a field of 114 female golfers.

Starting on the back nine on Friday, Ferguson struggled a bit with bogey on seven of her first eight holes, and double bogey on the fifteenth, but she rebounded with a par at eighteen and shot a nine-hole total of 40 on the front to end the day in 28th spot.

The back nine gave Ferguson trouble again on Saturday when she shot 43, but again she scored 40 on the front to cap off a strong tournament.

Charleston's Lauren Chappell, a sophomore, finished the event with a two-day total of 149 to claim the individual state title by one stroke over Rochester junior Morgan Savage.

Belleville Althoff took home first place in the team standings, shooting a four-person two-day total of 674, three strokes better than second-place Eldorado. Eldorado's Taylor Goodley shot 152 to finish tied for third individually.
