Serena K. Gibbs

Serena K. Gibbs, 87, of Du Quoin, passed away at 4:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2014 at her residence.

Serena was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin.

She was born July 30, 1927 at Alto Pass, Ill., the daughter of Ralph and Mary (Smith) Wilmouth.

She married Bennie Gibbs on June 14, 1948 at Jonesboro, Ark. and he preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 2013.

She is survived by one son - Benjie Gibbs and wife June of Du Quoin, one daughter - Kellie Swayne and husband Andy of Du Quoin, seven grandchildren - Philip Gibbs, Jason Gibbs, Holly Eubanks and husband Cody, Caleb Swayne, Benjamin Swayne, Spenser Swayne and Madison Swayne, six great grandchildren - Ryan Gibbs, Garrett Gibbs, Lylee Gibbs, Keira Gibbs, Archer Eubanks and Riley Atkins, special grandchildren - Elizabeth Hughes, David Rose and David Gaytan, one sister - Joan Bastien and husband Ralph of Murphysboro, one brother - Hubert Wilmouth and wife Brenda of Carbondale, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son - Keith Gibbs, and one brother - Willis Wilmouth.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2014 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Charles Smith officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Dutch Ridge Cemetery at Carbondale, Ill.
