Investigator Jason Dunn honored at Wall of Fame ceremony
Illinois Secretary of State Police Investigator and Bomb Disposal Unit member Jason Dunn was named Distinguished Alumni at the Carrier Mills high school Wall of Fame ceremony on Wednesday evening.
The ceremony celebrates sophomores, juniors and seniors who have achieved academic excellence throughout their high school career. Also honored are graduating 8th graders who have shown superior academic achievement through their junior high years.
Dunn, a 1993 Carrier Mills graduate joined the Illinois Secretary of State Police in 2005 and volunteered fro the Secretary of State Bomb Disposal Unit in 2012. As a Police investigator, Dunn served on Secretary of State Jessie White's bodyguard unit and still serves on that unit when White travels in the southern part of the state. Dunn was honored by the school district with the Distinguished Alumni Award Wednesday night.
Dunn is a Carrier Mills native and resides here with his family. Dunn spoke to the students about his memories of attending school here and the importance of education. Dunn said he was honored by the award and that he had very fond memories of going to school in Carrier Mills.
"I had amazing teachers, they cared about their students and treated us like family," Dunn said. "They made me realize how important an education is."
Dunn said his job with the state had allowed him to get to see and do things he never thought he wold do. Dunn said he loved his job and found it very rewarding. Dunn went on to congratulate the students being honored on their hard work and perseverance in achieving good grades and to encourage them to carry that attitude with them into their adult life.
"Do the best you can at whatever job you have, someone is always watching and will notice your hard work," Dunn said.
Dunn concluded his remarks by advising the students to continue to work hard at what they do in life.
"Find a something you love to do, get the job and work hard at it," Dunn said. "While you are in school, continue to learn and get all the experience you can."
