Freshmen Football: Harrisburg upends Patriots

The Harrisburg High School freshmen football team upended Massac County 61-26 late last week.

Isaiah Saulsberry threw for five touchdowns, while Blake Drue caught two of those touchdown passes and ran for another as Harrisburg rolled to the win.

Saulsberry hooked up with Cole Vaughn on a 38-yard pass play in the first quarter as Harrisburg took an 8-6 lead.

Saulsberry responded, finding Drue on a 24-yard pass play as Harrisburg built a 16-6 lead and Jaylen Godsey scampered 19 yards for a score as the Bulldogs built a 24-6 first quarter lead.

Massac County got a couple of scores early in the second quarter, but the Bulldogs went back to the air as Saulsberry found Drue on a pair of strikes, one of which went for 53 yards and the other went for 15 yards. Drue also provided a 16-yard rushing TD as the Bulldogs went up 47-18 at intermission.

The other two scores for Harrisburg included a 22-yard strike to Vaughn from Saulsberry and a Jordan Bartok five-yard run.

Harrisburg averaged 11.9 yards per play against the Patriots, while racking up 156 yards in passing and 118 yards on the ground.

Saulsberry finished 6-for-7 with 156 yards, while Drue led a steady ground attack as he finished with 49 yards on three carries. Godsey had three carries for 39 yards, while Saulsberry and Bartok each had 18 yards on the ground.

Drue caught three balls for 96 yards, while Vaughn had two catches for 60 yards.
