Prep Golf: Turning It Around
The Harrisburg High School girls' golf team was already playing a little short handed this season, but took a big blow Tuesday at the Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Golf Tournament at Hickory Ridge Golf Course.
Gabriella Tison had to withdraw, leaving the Bulldogs with just three players, thus not making enough to qualify as a team.
Harrisburg and Murphysboro were the two teams on the Ohio side that didn't finish with a team score.
Massac County won the Ohio with a 344, while Herrin shot a 371 and West Frankfort finished with a 450.
Herrin's Macy Mooneyham took medalist honors on the Ohio side after shooting a 78.
On the Mississippi side, Carterville's Avery Rea took medalist honors with a an 87m while Nashville edged the Lions for first place, 392-394
Sparta was third with a 460, while Pinckneyville fired a 468 and Anna-Jonesboro added a 488.
For the Bulldogs, they were led by junior Alexa Burtis, who went out in 45 and shot a blistering 41 on her way in to finish with an 86 to finish third overall.
Skyler Street carded a 124, while Nicole Taylor added a 141.
Burtis and Street were both representatives for Harrisburg last season, advancing out of regional play. The two will look to repeat on those efforts on October 8 at Franklin County Country Club.
