VOLLEYBALL: Hamilton County hangs on to beat Elverado

The Lady Falcons competed in the second set after a slow start, but Hamilton County came away with a 25-8, 25-21 victory in Monday night's volleyball match at Elverado High School.

"We played really well tonight, especially in the second set," said EHS head volleyball coach Donette Wheatley. "After we dug a few the first game, our confidence grew and we gave them a run for their money. Playing these bigger schools is only going to make us better."

Cheyenne Abbadusky delivered four kills to lead Elverado's offense, adding three blocks at the net on defense. Kaitlin Lively finished with a team-best eight digs on the night, Ellie Winthrop added four, Paige Newfarmer three.

EHS's junior-varsity squad suffered their second loss in a row, 25-20, 25-10, after starting their season with a four-game winning streak. Haily Falter's five kills led the way, Tori Ehlers had three.

Hamilton County also won the freshman game, 24-7, 17-12, 19-9. Ehlers had three kills, Lauren Walker had a pair of digs for the Lady Falcons.

Elverado is at home again on Tuesday against Egyptian.
