Sophomore Football: Marion rallies for win over Bulldogs
Despite three scores from Xavier Doss, the Harrisburg High School sophomore football team fell to Marion 41-29 Monday night.
Doss scored from seven yards out at the 7:35 mark of the first quarter and that was followed by a seven-yard run at the 8:59 point of the second quarter to give Harrisburg a 14-6 lead.
After Marion rattled off 28 straight points, Doss found paydirt from 70 yards out, making it a 34-21 ballgame.
The final score from Harrisburg came from Mitchell Crank, who scored from four yards out with 5:26 to play in the fourth quarter.
"I thought our offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage," sophomore head coach Kyle McGowan said. "We had a few more opportunities to score, but we ended up losing three fumbles, which hurt our chances. We felt like our kids competed for four quarters and gave themselves an opportunity to win the game. A break here or there and we could have came out with a win. Overall, we were pleased with the way that we played."
