OBITUARY: Geraldine Porter
Geraldine Porter, 101, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014 in Eldorado.
She was born Jan. 16, 1913, to the late Edd and Lula Minor. She and Everett Porter were married Sept. 16, 1929, and he preceded her in death in January 1998. She was also preceded in death by a son, Donald in 1949; her brothers: Ray, A.C. and the Rev. Edward Minor; and her sisters: Neva Cusic and Pearl Cusic.
She is survived by a son, David (Annette) Porter of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; three grandchildren: Beth (Keith) Morse of Aurora, Colo., Bruce (Kris) Porter of Glen Carbon and Kent Porter of Maplewood, Mo.; and three great-grandchildren: Adam, Aaron and Amanda Porter of Glen Carbon. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Geraldine was raised in the Salem community and commuted to Broughton High School by horseback. She married at the age of 16 and moved into a new home where they lived all their married lives. She had been an active member of Gholson Grove Baptist Church and later College Heights Baptist church where she taught both adult and children's Sunday School classes. She and her husband were actively involved in many denominational State and Associational functions. They were also members of numerous farm related organizations and had led 4-H clubs. She was a talented seamstress and pianist, and enjoyed putting out a big garden.
Funeral services were 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at the Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Randy Plunkett and the Rev. Mike Weaver officiating. Burial was in Gholson Grove Cemetery. Visitation was held 11 a.m. until service time of 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
