VOLLEYBALL: Lady Falcons come up three points short vs. Sesser-Valier
Elverado had a late lead in the third set of Tuesday night's home volleyball opener, but couldn't close out Sesser-Valier, as the Lady Red Devils rallied for a 23-25, 25-19, 25-22 victory in Elkville.
Cheyenne Abbadusky led the Lady Falcons with five kills on offense, Ellie Winthrop added three. Paige Newfarmer finished with a team-high six digs, Kaitlin Lively added four, Winthrop three. Winthrop led the team in blocks with three and Emma Bigham had four assists.
"We were up 22-17 in the last set and couldn't muster up the last three points," said Elverado head coach Donette Wheatley. "We lost our composure and made too many mistakes. We had a run where everything went our way and then, unfortunately, they answered with a run where everything went their way."
"We played hard, it was good to see what we are capable of. It was a good start."
The junior-varsity Lady Falcons had better luck, winning in three sets 23-25, 25-10, 15-9. Tori Ehlers led the way with eleven kills and Maycee Bowlin had five digs and nine service aces.
"Maycee had a great game behind the serving line, the whole team did - missing only five serves in three sets," Wheatley said. "Great start to the season for J-V."
Elverado's freshman team also won in three sets, 9-15, 16-8, 13-12.
The Lady Falcons are at home again on Thursday against Christopher.
