Main Street to be resurfaced this fall, Washington Street next spring
The City of Du Quoin is trying to pin down start times on the resurfacing of Main Street in downtown Du Quoin and the resurfacing of Rt. 51 (South Washington Street) from Grant Way near McDonalds north to the intersection of Washington and Poplar.
Along the way, city manager Brad Myers has learned that the downtown resurfacing will be accomplished this fall before the asphalt plants close for the winter.
That bid will go to Southern Illinois Asphalt. The bid came in lower than the estimate.
The E.T. Simonds Construction Co. will repave South Washington Street, but that work will not be performed until next spring.
That leaves the block of Washington Street between Poplar and Main that was not part of the bid process.
The estimated cost of that project is $50,000 and the city is searching its resources for the money to pay for that project.
All of the repaving will complement the downtown redevelopment work that has taken place over the last three years.
