OBITUARY: Jewell Bridwell

Jewell Bridwell nee Rapp, age 94, of Galatia, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at The Fountains of Shiloh in Shiloh with family present.

She was born on July 19, 1920, in Saline County near the Galatia area to the late John and Dana (Steinsultz) Rapp. Jewell was married to Robert Bridwell who preceded her in death in 1968.

She loved to sing and was a member of the Galatia trio for many years. She was a member and officer of the Rebecca Lodge and held an elected office in the Galatia Township for several terms. Jewell was the oldest surviving member of the Galatia Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Galatia at the time of her death.

Survivors include her daughter Rita (Don W.) Garner of Millstadt; two grandchildren, Lindsay Garner of St. Louis, Mo., and Jonathan (Sarah) Garner of Millstadt; two great-grandsons, Pierson and Eisley Garner; and brother, Earl Rapp of Steeleville.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, at the Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia with visitation noon until the funeral hour of 2 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Kevin Peyton will officiate with burial in the Webber Campground Cemetery.
