OBITUARY: Douglas Ray Pool

Douglas Ray Pool, 57, longtime resident of Green River, Wyo., lost his hard fought battle with cancer on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014.

He was born Feb. 26, 1957, in Joliet, the son of Kenneth Ray Pool and Judith Ann Moore Pool. Doug was a 1975 graduate from his hometown high school in Eldorado and a student of Southeastern Illinois College.

On July 24, 1976, he married Dorita Knight of Carmi. He and his wife were blessed with two daughters, Angelique Pool and Amanda Pool; and one grandson, Kaden Hayward Ray Davis, all of Salt Lake City, Utah.

In 1991, he moved his family to Wyoming. He was a loyal employee to OCI until his retirement in 2007. Sparked by his serious passion for reading and the excitement he had for the authors he loved, he served on the Sweetwater County Library Board. He considered the wonderful staff of the library close friends.

His family and friends will forever remember him for his love of hunting, guns and reloading, fresh cut grass with St. Louis Cardinal baseball on TV, anything John Deere, the best grilled ribeye steaks, and the unconditional love for his girls and grandson.

Survivors include his wife, daughters and grandson; father, Kenneth Pool and wife Dorothy (Metropolis); brother, Mike Pool (Metropolis); sister, Michelle Pool Huggins (Jackson, Mo.); stepbrother, Dean Lovellette (Eldorado); grandmother, Rosa Lee Pool (Broughton); in-laws, Loyal and Gay Ella Knight (Carmi); sister-in-law, Lucy Mathew (Evansville, Ind.); brother-in-law, Duane Knight (Berea, Ky.); and all families.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Judith Ann Pool; grandfather, Ezra Pool; grandparents, Claude and Lulu Moore; and his beloved dog, Molly.

A Celebration of Life memorial will be held at the Green River Expedition Island Pavilion, Green River, Wyo., 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014. In honor of Doug's love for cooking, the family is hosting a potluck barbecue and asks anyone who wishes to participate to bring a covered dish.
