Quality Time: Family Night in Keyes Park is Saturday

Du Quoin-area families can celebrate the end of summer with some quality time in Keyes City Park this Saturday, Aug. 16 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. during the Du Quoin Police Department's annual Family Night Out.

It is a high quality event for the entire community.

Chief of Police Jamie Ellermeyer said the department has made arrangements for ARCH Medical to land an evacuation helicopter on the north edge of the park (unless there is an emergency call). Families can talk to the pilot and crew about helicopter transport services.

There will be a youth beauty pageant from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Parents can register by calling the police department at 542-2131 or come to the pageant to enter.

Du Quoin Health Center will show families how they can stay healthy and fit with a zumba demonstration from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

There will be a dance and tumbling demonstration from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be a martial arts demonstration from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. courtesy Longshore's Tae Kwon Do studio.

The Subway Restaurant in Du Quoin will sponsor will sponsor a Subway eating contest from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Teams can register just before the event.

The Perry County Farm Bureau will service ice cream from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Free hot dogs, popcorn and soft drinks will be available throughout the event. There will be bounce houses for the kids. Singer Chandra Gilliam is expected to perform. There will be T-shirts. Marshall Browning Hospital is expected to offer free blood pressure tests, stroke education as well as other health care information for families.
