OBITUARY: Fern Etta Mitchell

Fern Etta Mitchell, 64, 530 North America Road, Galatia, died 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at her residence.

Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. Visitation was held Monday after 10 a.m. until service time. Burial was in North America Cemetery. The Rev. Bobby Gentry officiated. Memorials may be made to the family to help with expenses, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

She was born on Dec. 24, 1949, in Malden, Mo., to the late James Oral and Anna Deloris (Williams) Jordan.

She married Barney Lee Mitchell on June 7, 1969, in East St. Louis and he survives.

Fern enjoyed playing games, working puzzles, traveling and spending quality time with her family.

She attended the River Of Life Church in Harrisburg.

She is survived by her husband: Barney Lee Mitchell of Galatia; son: Barney (Erin) Mitchell II of Raleigh; granddaughter and her fiancee: Bianca Mitchell and J.R. Brown of Harrisburg; grandson: Cameron Mitchell of Raleigh; great-granddaughter: Tessalin Brown of Harrisburg; two stepgranddaughters: Alyssa Cox and Savannah Cox; three sisters: Loretta Turley of Redbud, Kay (Jess) Kirkley of Waterloo and Yuvonne (Bob) Wood of Greenville, Mo.; brother: Jerry (Marilyn) Jordan of Lenzburg; two sisters-in-law: Bobbe Tabor of Eldorado and Cheryl (Ernie) Goematt of Harrisburg; two brothers-in-law: Tony (Jamie) Mitchell of Golconda and Patrick (Teresa) Mitchell of Harrisburg; several nieces; nephews; and a very loving community of special neighbors on North America Road.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister: Elberta Pinkard and a brother-in-law: Bill (Rocky) Mitchell.
