Two hurt in Herod crash

A man and woman were transported by medical helicopter to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind., after driving off state Route 34 near Herod highway Tuesday afternoon.

A pickup truck on state Route 34 half a mile north of Herod drove off the highway, struck an embankment, went airborne and injured the female driver and male passenger inside, according to a release from the Illinois State Police of Ullin.

The vehicle landed on property of the Vinyard Indian Settlement, according to the Saline County Sheriff's Office.

Illinois State Police Sgt. Tom Goessman said the ISP will no longer release names of individuals injured in crashes handled by the agency.

"We are no longer allowed to release names," Goessman said.

Pope County Fire and Rescue responded to extricate the male passenger. Saline County Ambulance and Pope County Ambulance both responded. Deputies set up a helicopter landing zone near Harbison's Grocery at Herod.
