Gregory Martin Harris
Gregory Martin Harris, 66 of Harrisburg, passed away peacefully at 10:43 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on February 27, 1950, in Harrisburg, the son of Lenora (Fulkerson) Harris and Joe Harris. He was united in marriage to Cherrie (Eadie) Williams on December 23, 2006. Together, they have enjoyed the last 9 ½ years.
Greg was a real estate appraiser in Harrisburg and the surrounding counties for over 30 years. He enjoyed the real estate business and meeting the homeowners of the home's that he appraised. He never met a stranger. He was a member of the Jaycees, the Methodist Men's Group and Second Team, where he did what he enjoyed best - cooking for the members and guests. Most important to him was his family/friends and his church membership with the First United Methodist Church of Harrisburg.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and also enjoyed supporting the local sports programs.
He is survived by his wife, Cherrie Eadie Harris; son, Joel Harris of Jacksonville, FL; daughter, Amanda Harris of Jacksonville, FL; stepdaughter, Hillary (Case) DeVisser of Harrisburg; Granddaughter Sophia Elle Harris of Jacksonville, FL and step granddaughter's Liv and Kate DeVisser of Harrisburg. He is also survived by Jim Gibbons of Harrisburg, very special friend of the family for over 30 years. He is also survived by many cousins, one of which worked with him for many years, Frances (Leslie) Hardin of Pope County.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents and stepson, Zachary Williams.
The funeral service for Greg will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg with Pastor Christine Cunningham officiating. The family will receive friends and visitors at the Church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. The J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke, which participates in research and trials for Glioblastoma. Each donation requires that a donation form be filled out with it to ensure it goes to the proper fund.
