Logo Do-Over? City of Du Quoin logo didn't last long
Du Quoin Mayor Guy Alongi closes every city council meeting with an open discussion of things that are on his mind.
Monday was no different.
He wanted to thank everyone for their extraordinary work to create a meaningful Christmas atmosphere in Du Quoin.
He mentioned a possible Wednesday repair of a leak in a water main on South Washington Street, weather permitting.
He asked Du Quoin residents to take pride in their homes and yards as the weather breaks and to do what you can to improve the curb appeal of your properties. It doesn't have to take a lot of money. It takes only a sense of pride and some work.
The last thing he talked about was a City of Du Quoin logo unveiled early last spring in the final days of the previous administration. "I know people worked hard on this," he began.
"But, I don't know if it captures the history and the heritage of the community," he said in a very sincere tone. He isn't sure what the elements should be--coal mining, the Du Quoin State Fair, etc. The list goes on. He asked everyone to be thinking about it, hoping to create a focused image that represents the best of Du Quoin. The Du Quoin Chamber of Commerce uses the logo created last year. The city and its departments largely use neither the old "For a Change of Pace" logo nor the new logo. The old logo continues to appear on the council seating.
It's just a thought, no more and no less.
