GIRLS BASKETBALL: Oft-injured Lady Indians beaten at Ham-Co

The bright spot in Du Quoin's 42-32 loss at Hamilton County on Saturday was that the Lady Indians made it though the entire game without suffering any additional injuries to the roster.

DHS's girls basketball team was coming off a loss to Nashville on Thursday that ended with an ugly collision between Katie Smith and Hannah Baxter, leaving the former with stitches in her head and the latter with a missing tooth. In the same game, Tarynn Mays injured an ankle.

Those mishaps are the latest in a long string of injuries to the team this season that has seen at least 8 of the 14 varsity players currently on the roster miss time.

As for Saturday's game, Du Quoin led 14-10 after the first quarter and 19-17 at halftime, but the Lady Foxes came out of the locker rooms with a 13-5 third quarter to swing the momentum their way.

Kate Smith led the Lady Indians with 7 points, Mackenzie Jackson, Alaina Caldwell and Jordyn Bullar each scored 6, Sadie Day had 5 and Chloe Hill 2.

Hamilton County also won the junior varsity game, 35-26. Jackson led DHS in scoring for the game with 12 points.

Du Quoin (8-13, 1-4) hosts Carterville on Tuesday night in SIRR Mississippi Division action.
