EHT: Upsets highlight Day 1 at Eldorado Holiday Tournament

Game 1: Carmi-White County 70, Hardin County 50

Trailing most of the first half, Carmi-White County outscored Hardin County 37-14 in the second half of Saturday's opener, putting Hardin County in the elimination game with a 70-50 win.

Carmi-White County, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, put four players in double figures as Zach Vaught had a game-high 19 points for the Bulldogs, while Tucker Gray finished with 13 points. Matt Rice and Tyler Barbre each tacked on 13 for CWC.

The Cougars put two players in double figures as Jaron Austin had 18 in the loss and Austin Steavers finished with 17.

Hardin County led 15-14 after the first quarter and led 37-33 at intermission.

Game 2: West Frankfort 70, Meridian 69 OT

West Frankfort made a second half push and pulled off the first upset of the tournament, knocking off Meridian 70-69 in overtime Saturday morning.

Meridian, who came in as the No. 5 seed, led 31-30 and used the first three minutes of the second half to go on a 9-2 run to take a 40-32 lead, but West Frankfort stormed back, using the next three minutes of their own to get to within one, 42-41 at the 3:26 mark of the third quarter.

Meridian closed out the third period up 47-44, but were outscored 15-18 in the final eight minutes of regulation to pull to a 62-62 draw.

In OT, West Frankfort went 4-for-12 from the foul line and outscored the Bobcats 8-7 to pull away with the win.Keegan Easley scored a Day 1 high 31 points to lead the Redbirds

Game 3: Union County, Ky. 51, Anna-Jonesboro 48

The comeback was not in the cards for Anna-Jonesboro Saturday as they were upset by Union County, Ky.

The Braves (6-4) put three players in double figures as Bo Robison had a game-high 16 points. Logan Thomas and Jacob Tapp each netted 11 for Union County.

Anna-Jonesboro, who trailed 17-7 after one quarter, 25-19 at halftime and 37-31 at the end of three had the game tied late in the final eight minutes, before the Braves pulled away with the victory.

Ryan Stark had a team-high 13 points for the Wildcats, while Dakota Earnhart tacked on 10.

Game 4: Massac County 57, Hamilton County 23

Massac County, the No. 1 seed in this year's EHT field, cruised to a 57-23 win over Hamilton County.

J.T. Weber had a game-high 20 points for the Patriots, who also got a double-digit performance from Noah Farmer, who finished with 14 points.

Massac County jumped out to a 22-1 first quarter lead and led 36-10 at halftime.

Game 5: Norris City-Omaha Enfield 55, Fairfield 40

Norris City-Omaha-Enfield's Dakota Bond had a game-high 22 points, while Matt Long joined his Cardinal teammate in double figures with 16 points as NCOE pulled off the third upset of the day, knocking off No. 7 seed Fairfield 55-40.

Bond had 17 of his 22 points in the second half as the Cardinals outscored the Mules 35-23.

Fairfield got a pair of 11-point performances from Wyatt Troyer and Sky Kollak.

Game 6: Webster Co., Ky. 58, Gallatin County 29

It was a valiant effort by Gallatin County, who made a late charge in the second half, but couldn't overcome the size and strength of Webster County, Ky., as the Hawks fell 58-29 Saturday night.

Seth Ramsey led the Hawks with 14 points and was the only player to reach double digits.

The Trojans, the No. 2 seed in the EHT, put two players in double figures as 6-foot-8 big man Cayden Edmonson had a game-high 16 points, while Jon Stubblefield tacked on 11 in the win.

Game 9: Meridian 67, Hardin County 48

Hardin County was the first team eliminated from the Eldorado Holiday Tournament as the Cougars were knocked out 67-47 by Meridian in the 10 p.m. game Saturday night.

Meridian took a 34-24 lead into the locker room and maintained that lead through most of the second half, leading 49-39 after three quarters of play.

Daniel Valentine had his second-straight double digit game of the tournament, finishing with a game-high 20 points to help Meridian stay alive in the consolation bracket.

Byron Nesby, Jabore Patrick and Darrell Lowe all had 11 points for the Bobcats.

Austin Steavers netted a team-high 18 points for Hardin County, who got another 14 points from Tyler Winters. Both had double-digit performances in their first game of the day as well.
