Prep Wrestling: Bulldogs bring back Skull & Crossbones Championship
With two first place finishes from freshmen Kyle and Kody Cavender, Harrisburg took first place at the Skull & Crossbones Invitational at Cumberland last week.
Harrisburg received a total of 175 points after two first place finishes, three second place finishes, one third place finish and two fourth place finishes.
Olney East Richland (169) took second place, followed by Monticello (166.5), Shelbyville (121.5) and Oakwood (117.5) to round out the top five.
Benton grabbed a sixth place finish with a 114 point performance with two first place finishes, a second place finish and one fourth, fifth and sixth place finish.
Kyle Cavender knocked off OAK's Ren Dazey with a 8-5 decision to take the 120-pound weight class title.
Kody Cavender grabbed the 126-pound weight class championship by pinning Olney East Richland's Ean Pottoff in in 3:25.
Harrisburg's Chandler Bowling missed out on a first place finish, after he was pinned by MONT Logan Krisley in 1:01 in the 132-pound weight class and Lucian Hicks took second place after losing on a 7-2 decision to SHY Caleb Cole in the 195-pound weight class.
Chase McDaniel was runner up to Sparta's William Monroe after being pinned at 3:32 in the 285-pound weight class.
Ryan Ragsdale grabbed a third-place trophy after knocking off Sparta's Rylee Sheldon with a 10-9 decision in the 170-pound weight class.
Landon Hicks picked up a fourth place finish after falling to Olney East Richland's Logan Martin in the 113-pound weight class, as did Harrisburg's Jimmy Hicks who lost on an 8-4 decision to SHY Clayton Peterson in the 138-pound weight class.
