HMC takes next step in war on breast cancer

The Radiology Depertment at Harrisburg Medical Center has new reason to be excited.
The hospital announced its latest offering: SenoClaire, GE Healthcare's new breast mammography solution designed with a three-dimensional imaging technology. SenoClaire, which the FDA approved in 2014, uses a low-dose short X-ray sweep around the positioned breast with nine exposures taken with a "step-and-shoot" method that reduces blur and increases image sharpness.
"We are pleased to be working with GE Healthcare to provide women with a precise screening tool to help detect breast cancer," said Rodney Smith, Harrisburg Medical Center president and CEO. "When cancer is identified and treated early, we know women have a better rate of survival."
The new machine allows technicians to get a more accurate picture of what is happening inside patients and the lower dose of radiation is safer to use. SenoClaire has the potential to replace digital mammography exams in screening to detect breast cancer.
"Harrisburg Medical Center is committed to offering the community a complete suite of solutions - from screening and diagnosis through treatment and monitoring," said Adam Anderson, the hospital's radiology director. "SenoClaire will offer our patients a new solution to help clinicians detect breast cancer with low dose radiation and high image quality."
