10th Annual LJMWC bracket announced

Winter is almost here and that means it is time to start thinking about Chester's two premiere basketball tournaments.

The first is the 10th annual Lady Jackets Mid-Winter Classic, with the second being the Chester Invitational Tournament. Information about the latter event is forthcoming.

Tournament officials announced the LJMWC bracket on December 15. This year's slate includes host Chester, New Athens, Sparta, Trico, Elverado, Marissa-Coulterville, Dupo and Valmeyer.

The official website for the tournament is www.midwinterclassic.com.

Each team in the tournament will play three games.There will be a total of 12 games played over the five-day tournament.

The tournament runs Monday, January 4, through Saturday January 9 with action tipping off 6 p.m. on Jan. 4. The first game features No. 1 seed New Athens and Trico, followed by Sparta and Elverado at 7:30 p.m.

The second night of competition features Chester taking on Marissa-Coulterville at 6 p.m., followed by No. 2 seed Dupo and Valmeyer at 7:30 p.m.

The losers of Games 1 and 2 will continue play January 6 at 6 p.m. in the consolation bracket. Game 1 and 2 winners will play at 7:30 p.m. in the championship bracket.

The losers of Games 3 and 4 will continue play January 7 at 6 p.m., while Game 3 and 4 winners will play at 7:30 p.m.

Friday will be a day of rest with no games being scheduled.

Action will continue Saturday, January 9 at 1 p.m. with the 7th place game, with the consolation championship taking place at 2:30 p.m.

The third place game will take place at 3 p.m. with the championship scheduled for 5:30 p.m. A full bracket is included on this page.

The Lady Yellow Jackets have already faced five (Sparta, Valmeyer, Marissa-Coulterville, Trico and Elverado) of the seven teams they might possible play in the tournament.

Chester has a 3-2 record against those teams.
