GIRLS BASKETBALL: Du Quoin ends skid with win at Sparta
Despite five varsity players sitting out with injuries, Du Quoin was able to come away with a 66-46 road win at Sparta on Tuesday, getting a game-high 24 points from Sadie Day.
Day was joined in double figures by Hannah Baxter (17 points) and Tarynn Mays (13), as the Lady Indians snapped a four-game losing streak.
"We played together tonight," said DHS head coach Shawn File. "We did a great job of being patient on offense, then got several easy baskets against their press."
Du Quoin led 17-10 after the first quarter, where Jordyn Bullar scored 7 of her 9 points. It was 28-13 at the half, and then Day went off for 17 second-half points as the Lady Indians put away the win.
DHS held Sparta's 6'2 Kera Kiner to 14 points despite playing shorthanded in the post - and in general.
Chloe Hill chipped in 2 points, Katie Smith had 1.
Du Quoin (5-5, 1-2) travels to Anna-Jonesboro on Thursday night.
