The Gift: Du Quoin police hand out $100 bills
While attending a Christmas concert on Thursday evening, Du Quoin Mayor Guy Alongi received a message on Facebook that read as follows:
"Hey mayor, if I donate $1,000 would the Du Quoin Police Department be willing to identify 10 individuals and their families who are in need, then, walk up to them and place in their hand a Christmas card with a $100 bill in it?"
The message went on to say they want to remain anonymous, but wanted the public to know that Du Quoin was a friendly and generous community.
The mayor said, "I have seen many acts of kindness over the past several weeks and this does not surprise me that someone has stepped forward again to help others out in the community."
When asked if the mayor knows the individual or family, he simply said "yes, and they are the kind of people that are always helping out others in a time of need."
Du Quoin residents be on alert! An officer may walk up to you with a card that says Merry Christmas with $100 inside.
