Modoc man cited in Route 150 accident
A Modoc man was cited for "improper turn" after a Tuesday afternoon accident at the intersection of State Route 150 and the frontage road to Chester Walmart.
According to the Chester Police Department, a Huffman Trucking tractor-trailer - driven by 38-year-old Rich S. Hensley of Cutler - was attempting to turn eastbound onto Route 150 when it struck a 2001 Chevrolet SUV.
The SUV - driven by Elmer Koke of Modoc - had pulled alongside the larger vehicle, also with the intention of turning eastbound.
In its release, the CPD stated it wished to remind drivers that while the turning radius in this area is wide, it does not contain a right turn lane.
"If you choose to pass the stopped vehicle on the right to make a right turn, you are doing so at your own risk," said Chester Police Chief Ryan Coffey in a statement. "This maneuver is especially dangerous when passing a semi-tractor trailer, due to the likelihood that the passing vehicle is much more difficult for the semi driver to see."
No injuries occurred as a result of the accident, which was reported at 12:06 p.m.
