Deloris J. (Powell) Parish, 84, Harrisburg
Deloris J. (Powell) Parish, age 84, left the earth Saturday, December 5, 2015 to live in eternity with our Lord Jesus Christ and all those who went before her.
Deloris was born on June 16, 1931 to Floyd and Thelma (Foster) Powell in Carrier Mills, IL. She grew up in Harrisburg, IL. She graduated from Harrisburg High School Class of 1949. On December 24 that same year she married the love of her life Norman Parish who preceded her in death on September 5, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters in infancy and a son-in-law Larry Sanders.
She is survived by one brother: Darrell (Nancy) Powell of Harrisburg. She is also survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law: Becky O'Brien of Carbondale, Connie (Jim) Oliver of Johnston City, Terri (Bill) Wynn, Christy Sanders (Kevin Baldwin) all of Herrin. Surviving grandchildren: Scott Stacy of Herrin, Amy Stacy Krulowski of Sanford, NC, Derek Wynn (Meghan Lacey) of Evergreen, CO, Shawn (Ashley) Thompson, Brooke Herrin (Evan Collier), Larry Sanders, Joey and Dylan Wallace all of Herrin. Four great-grandsons, six great-granddaughters along with numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Her working career started in the medical field working for Dr. Franks, Dr. Tuttle, and Dr. Frank P. Skaggs who was there to deliver all four of her girls. During that same time she worked at the former Harrisburg Hospital in surgery. After raising her girls in later years she was employed by Charles Sowman at "the Original" Burger Nook and by Bill Brayfield at the Herrin Elks Club in Herrin where she met and made many lifelong friends.
Funeral services for Deloris Parish will be held at 1 PM, Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Kenny Byron and Keith Fletcher will officiate. Burial will follow in Ingram Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM, Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
