GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lady Warriors beat Murphysboro, 36-23
The Lady Warriors moved above the .500 mark for the season on Monday night, picking up a 36-23 victory over Murphysboro at Du Quoin Middle School.
The game was tight throughout the first half with DMS taking a 15-13 lead to the break, then the Lady Warriors built themselves an eight-point lead in the third, outscoring Murphysboro 10-4.
A three-point play by Bailey Harsy with just over two minutes to go in the game capped off an 11-1 run by Du Quoin to put the game away in the fourth period.
Chloe Prather led the Lady Warriors with 10 points, Harsy and Braylee Watson each added 7, Elizabeth Bird had 6, Chloe Hess 4 and Emily Green 2.
DMS's seventh grade girls improved to 7-2 on the season with their 29-4 win over Murphysboro. Ella Hirsch led the Lady Warriors in scoring with 9 points. Maya Russell scored 6 points, Lauren Heape had 4, and Delaynie Dearmond, Kaylea Snowden, Lilly Feltmeyer, Stella Ingram and Ayla Furlow each had 2.
Du Quoin (6-5) hosts Trico on Wednesday evening with the seventh grade game tipping off at 5:30 p.m.
