City updates online presence
Harrisburg is moving into the 21st century with a brand new website.
At the Harrisburg City Council meeting on Thursday, a representative from Baysinger Architects unveiled a brand new city website that went live earlier that day.
The new website still has all of the same features as the old one, but has an updated look and some new additions. A tourism page was added that anyone visiting Harrisburg can pull up and see what is going on. All of the work done on the website was donated to the city by Baysinger.
"It is still a work in progress, but we think it is a pretty cool addition to the city page," Mayor Dale Fowler said.
In addition to the new website the board voted to dedicate a new street in Harrisburg. The property on the West side abuts an existing alley the City has maintained because of an original water and sewer easement.
The alley runs the length of three streets on the North side of the bypass; Ford, Dayton, and Big Four streets. In an earlier meeting, the City Board moved to name the street Ingram Street in honor of long time high school coach Chuck Ingram, the motion passed. Tonight the board voted and approved the dedication of the street to the city of Harrisburg.
Earlier this year the City Board applied for a Community Development Block Grant through the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Unfortunately the application was denied. Forty-six applications were submitted in total, from eligible communities throughout Illinois. Though the City Board was unsuccessful this year they plan to make another go of it in years to come.
The board also approved an amendment to chapter 21 of the Harrisburg Municipal Code. The amendment now states that no water shall be turned on at any retail premise until such time as an inspection of the occurred and the premises have been approved as required in Chapter 4, Sections 107-121. This new amendment will take effect on Jan. 1.
In closing, the city tax totals to be levied are on display in the City Clerk's office for inspection, by the public, before the next scheduled City Board Meeting on Dec. 17.
