Gospel Assembly Christmas concert

If the spirit and the meaning of Christmas in your life has gotten lost somewhere, the very best place to get it back into your heart is Sunday's Christmas concert at the Gospel Assembly Church in Du Quoin.

It's an extraordinary event that starts at 6 p.m. and lasts for approximately an hour and a half.

The setting is one of Du Quoin's most beautiful churches at the corner of East Main and Leonard streets. The sanctuary will seat more than 500, but get there early.

The director of over 30 years is John Fleming. He has been working with the church's orchestra of 23 members and choir of 32 members since October to bring you the very best voices and sounds of Christmas.

"We will have some special singing groups. We always start out with the youth group. There will be a men's group and a ladies' group as well as a quartet." he said.

"We will have traditional pieces like Silent Night and Little Town of Bethlehem and Oh Come All Ye Faithful," he said. "We will also have a special piece called He's as Close as the Mention of His Name."

You will feel like you are in a concert hall.

The church will serve refreshments to its guests in the downstairs fellowship hall following the conclusion of the concert.

It is the very best of Du Quoin at Christmas.
