Police piece together answers in woman's death

Du Quoin Chief of Police Jamie Ellermeyer and Perry County Coroner Paul Searby said Monday the death of a 29-year old Vergennes woman found dead Saturday morning in the women's bathroom at Hardee's could take several days to complete.

Police say Ralph was NOT an employee. It is not known if she was a Friday night customer or simply used the restroom.

An autopsy was performed on Kaileigh Ralph Monday and it could be two to three weeks before those results are back. A toxicology report may hold the key to her death.

The body of Ralph was found in the restroom of the Hardee's on South Washington Street at 4:48 a.m. Saturday morning, police say.

Chief Ellermeyer said Monday surveillance video in the restaurant shows she entered the restroom Friday at 7:15 p.m. She never left the restroom and no one else had entered the restroom after 9 p.m.

Ellermeyer said no one would have given a second thought to a stall door being closed and a purse sitting on the floor. Her body was found the next morning as the staff prepared for the restaurant's opening.

Investigators have reviewed the restaurant's video surveillance recording and do not believe Kaileigh died as a result of foul play.

"At this time it is apparent that there is no criminal foul play involved and video surveillance from the store confirms that," Du Quoin Police said in a news release Saturday afternoon.
