OBITUARY: Janet Kay Furlong

Janet Kay Furlong, age 58, a resident of Carrier Mills, passed away 2:08 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, at her residence.

She was born on Jan. 11, 1956, in Harrisburg to Pleas and Oneda A (Prather) Furlong Jr. Janet worked for 32 years at Harrisburg Manufacturing and was currently employed at Aisin in Marion. She played slow pitch softball for many years through the park district, enjoyed family gatherings, watching the SI Miners baseball games and going to flea markets.

Jan is survived by her parents, Pleas and Oneda Furlong Jr. of Harrisburg; brother: Michael and his wife Robbie Furlong of Harrisburg; sister: Lisa and husband Steve Johnson of Mt. Vernon; nieces: Brandi and husband Jarus Jones of Carbondale; Michelle and husband Tony Reeves of Mt. Vernon; Ashton Lee of Harrisburg; great-nephew: Grayson Jones of Carbondale and a soon-to-be great-niece. Several aunts uncles and cousins survive including her special uncle, Lowell Furlong.

Jan was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents: Pleas and Margie (Layman) Furlong Sr.; and maternal grandparents: Hubert and Iola (Modglin) Prather; and a cousin: Belinda Keith.

Funeral services will held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg.

The Rev. Mark Hutson will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg.
